The BEST drinking game ever: 21
Firstly, just to be clear, this drinking game is not related to any specific TV series, movie or theme. This is without doubt one of the best, if not, the absolute best drinking game that you will ever play. This particular game requires no cards or props, the only components that need to be present are humans, drink, the ability to count up to 21 and imagination!
- At least 3 players.
- Ability to count to 21.
Complete as many rounds as possible, like Monopoly, there is no endpoint as such, but you can for example set a fixed number of rounds or time-limit and play to that.
How to Play
Pick one player to kick-off the first round. He will start with the number “1” and can say either, “1”, “1, 2” or “1, 2, 3”. The player to his left or right goes next (choose which direction to go) and they carry on from where the first player left off, adding either one, two or three numbers, this continues round the group all the way up to 21 and whoever ends up getting 21, takes a drink. For example.
Player 1 - “1, 2”
Player 2 - “3”
Player 3 - “4, 5, 6”
Sound simple? Don’t get comfortable, this is where the fun begins. Whoever is unfortunate (or fortunate depending on your perspective) enough to be forced to utter the number 21 (you can’t deliberately give yourself 21, as this would destroy the devastating of the game) must take a hearty swig from his tankard… or glass. But that’s not all, the player who gets the holy 21 also get to alter the game, in whichever way they see fit.
It should be noted that from the very first round, there is already one rule in place, the numbers 7 and 14 are switched, so for example.
Player 3 - “6, 14, 8”
Player 6 - “12, 13, 7”
Any player who breaks any rule whatsoever, must take a drink.
Examples of rules to make when getting to 21
- Swap more numbers, e.g. swap 9 and 19.
- Replace a number with a movie or TV show quote, it can be as obscure or iconic as your wish. E.g “Get away from her you bitch!” A classic from the legendary James Cameron classic, Aliens.
- No names allowed.
- No swearing.
- Drinking with left hand only.
- Leprechaun rule (removing an imaginary leprechaun from your glass prior to every drink).
These may seem like simple rules, but the level of difficulty increases exponentially with every round, especially as more drink is consumed. There is no limit on what rules or changes that you can make, so use your imagination to the fullest!
Always remember to drink somewhat responsible.
